Clive Jonathan Grogono, November 20, 1955 – August 29, 2021. Son of Sonia and Basil Grogono, brother of Stella McNeil, Alice Rabideau, and Matthew Grogono. Uncle of many. Born in London, England, Clive immigrated to Winnipeg with his family as a young child. The family moved to Halifax in 1969. During his schooling Clive excelled in Mathematics and pursued a career in teaching math and computer science in high schools in Canada and the UK, and at Dalhousie and St. Mary’s Universities.
Clive thrived on using his stellar mind to analyse and rebuild complicated systems. He enjoyed the unexpected, and a few things wrong, as it challenged his brain to sort them out. Whether recycling heat from a cathedral loft, redesigning a passport photo booth, recalibrating a traffic zone, adding decimal points to the fold out map grid, discovering an entomopathogenic solution for bedbugs, or improving on the sundial, Clive could figure out a better way. His proudest achievement, two decades in the making, was the creation of a profound new music notation system - www.grogo-music.com. He also recently co-wrote a book, which revisits a “proven medicinal agent” used against the Spanish Flu, and other URTI’s - TheSolution-now.org.
A life-long study and open discourse of the book of Genesis and its relevance were his delight. He loved nature and had a keen eye and would marvel at God's handiwork. He was a good photographer. As a deep thinker Clive often puzzled over the difficult questions of life.
In 2017, Clive returned to the UK. He discovered youth hostels were also places for older "youth". He enjoyed very much travelling and exploring the beautiful British countryside and meeting people at the hostels. He took the opportunity to gather up clan from far and wide and held a grand reunion at the charming Street Youth Hostel, near Glastonbury. His UK adventures were ended with the lockdowns.
This last year Clive followed a dream of touring Italy and practicing the beautiful language, before succumbing to illness. Clive’s last days were spent productively in Plymouth, where his niece Joanna was by his side helping him to finish some of his projects as well as care for him. He was also able to enjoy visits from his niece Daniela. Clive will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Yet he anticipated with joy, his next stop.
Hebrews 11:14 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God.
A commemorative gathering for the Life of Clive will be held at the home of Sonia Grogono, Sunday, Sept 12,2-4.
